About Rabbi Eli J. Mansour

During the early decades of the twentieth century, Sephardic Jews began emigrating from Syria to the United States. Initially settling on Manhattan's Lower East Side, they later established thriving communities throughout Brooklyn. As they built new lives in America, these immigrants remained deeply connected to their roots in Aleppo (Aram Soba, Halab), a city that had been home to one of the world's oldest and most distinguished Jewish communities for millennia.

Preserving the traditions, values, and customs of their ancestral homeland became a defining mission. Synagogues, yeshivot, and communal institutions were established to instill in future generations a profound appreciation for their spiritual heritage and an unwavering commitment to perpetuating it on American soil.

It was into this rich legacy that Rabbi Eli J. Mansour was born.

Rabbi Mansour is the eldest of five children born to Joseph and Rochelle Mansour, whose families trace their roots to the Middle East. When it came time for his formal education, he attended the renowned Magen David Yeshivah, founded by his great-uncle, the esteemed Mr. Isaac Shalom, of blessed memory, with the vision of preserving and strengthening the traditions of the Syrian Sephardic community.

At Magen David, Rabbi Mansour immersed himself in Torah study under the guidance of distinguished educators, including Rabbi David Bitton and Rabbi Moshe Greenes, both of blessed memory. These formative years instilled in him a deep appreciation for the beauty and depth of Sephardic Torah tradition.

Among all his teachers, however, none influenced him more profoundly than Rabbi Baruch Ben Haim, of blessed memory, the revered spiritual leader of the Syrian Jewish community. In a remarkable continuity of tradition, Rabbi Ben Haim had also been a teacher of Rabbi Mansour's father. Under his mentorship, Rabbi Mansour developed not only a profound commitment to Torah learning but also a deep sense of responsibility toward the preservation of his community's cherished heritage. Rabbi Ben Haim became his trusted source for halachic guidance and spiritual counsel, shaping the foundation of his lifelong rabbinic leadership.

Rabbi Mansour continued his education as one of the founding students of Yeshivat Shaare Torah High School, where he studied under the leadership of his Rosh Yeshivah, Rabbi Hillel Haber. Following graduation, he pursued advanced Torah study at Mercaz HaTorah in Jerusalem before continuing at Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, New Jersey.

After marrying his wife, Rabbi Mansour returned to Brooklyn, where he accepted the position of Rabbi at the Ahi Ezer Torah Center. His exceptional Torah scholarship, remarkable clarity of presentation, warm and engaging personality, and unique ability to connect with Jews from every background quickly established him as one of the community's most respected teachers and leaders. Through his teachings, countless individuals have discovered the joy, meaning, and fulfillment found in a life guided by Torah.

Rabbi Mansour maintains a rigorous schedule of Torah teaching that reflects his unwavering dedication to Jewish education. His daily responsibilities include an early-morning Daf Yomi shiur, a daily halachah class, an Ein Yaakov lecture for businessmen, and regular Torah lectures at Ilan High School, in the synagogue, and in private homes throughout the community. For many, however, the highlight of the week is his Shabbat afternoon derashah, which consistently attracts audiences beyond the synagogue's seating capacity.

Alongside his extensive teaching and communal responsibilities, Rabbi Mansour continues to devote himself to intensive Torah study each day at Keter Sion Kollel and Kollel Aram Soba, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to personal growth in Torah.

The reach of Rabbi Mansour's teachings extends far beyond his local community. His lectures have been recorded and distributed throughout the world, reaching audiences across multiple continents. Today, he is recognized as one of the Torah world's most sought-after speakers, delivering lectures and providing inspiration to Jewish communities throughout the United States and around the globe.

Rabbi Mansour currently serves as the Senior Rabbi of the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue in Brooklyn, New York, where he continues to inspire thousands through his Torah scholarship, pastoral leadership, and unwavering dedication to the spiritual growth of his congregation and the broader Jewish community. During the summer months, he also serves as the Rabbi of Ohel Yaakob (Lawrence Avenue) Synagogue in Deal, New Jersey.

Rabbi and Rebbetzin Mansour are the proud parents of six children, bli ayin hara, each of whom is being raised in the rich tradition inherited from generations of devoted parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Their heartfelt aspiration is that their children—and Jewish children everywhere—remain deeply connected to the timeless wisdom of their ancestors, fulfilling the Torah's enduring exhortation:

"She'al Avicha Ve'yagedcha, Zekenecha Ve'yomeru Lach" — "Ask your father, and he will inform you; your elders, and they will tell you" (Devarim 32:7).
